Where we based?
Ethiopia, located in the Horn Of Africa, is a rugged landlocked country split by the Great Rift Valley home to over 128 million people speaking 86 distinct languages, it is a culturally diverse and fascinating place. Though the country is rich in so many ways with beauty and intricate cultural nuance it is also a country gripped by challenges with up to 80% of the population experiencing deep poverty. It is a country that is passing through complicated social, economic, and political problems, often erupting in violent divisions.
Our team is specifically located in Addis Ababa, the Capital of Ethiopia, though we currently have 2 ministry sites our focus are the people in ‘Sholla’ Community. ‘Sholla is large outdoor market which also has a large area known for commercial sex work. We are focusing on serving among 100 women and their 40 children as well as more than 460 more of the most vulnerable individuals in the community. We have created a new community to through social networking and through developing a network of savings groups to collectively help them to overcome economic and social barriers by learning to help themselves through micro finance and micro enterprise endeavors. These same women are taking part in discipleship groups, personal training in business development or job preparedness helping them to quit the life of commercial sex work and do other productive work.
Our second location is in ‘Sheger’ City ‘Walhawo Legaberi,’ it is located near to the edge Addis Ababa. It is where we launched our Restoration Center and poultry farm as income generation activity and creating job for women who can then break the cycle of commercial sex work and poverty.
